Brené Brown clarifies the difference between shame and guilt in her Listening to Shame TED Talk. She explains that guilt is in relation to behaviour and shame is in relation to self, so guilt is ‘I behaved bad’ and shame is ‘I am bad’. Understanding this difference allows us to bring awareness to our own and other’s unconscious patterns of shame and shaming, our awareness becomes a tool for creating shame, so we can experience a healthier and empowered relationship with our self and others.

I invite you to bring gentle awareness of when and where you may:

1. Shame yourself

2. Shame others

Let us collectively bring change to punishing and shaming ourselves and others for our behaviour. Let the behaviour be judged separately to the self as a starting point.
